Main Plaza San Antonio

A series of temporary shade structures was designed
to mitigate the recent loss of old growth shade trees
in Main Plaza, San Antonio’s cultural heart originally
constructed in the 1700s.

Designed with
Rios Clementi Hale Studios

The structures are conceived as a series of woven canopies that, while visually open and airy, provide maximized shade while withstanding heavy
wind loads. The structures were fabricated off-site as a kit-of-parts and installed in a few days,
minimizing construction costs and further
site damage.
